Plot Twister

Best AI story games

Updated · By Reno Labs

For an open-ended AI text adventure where you are the hero, start with AI Dungeon or FableAI. For tabletop-style rules and a party, try Friends & Fables. For a narrator-led world, try Hidden Door. For steering characters through short pixel-art episodes, try Plot Twister, which we make. For writing with an AI, try NovelAI.

Disclosure. We make Plot Twister, and it is in this list. We tried to rank it fairly: by fit, it comes sixth of seven, because it is a different kind of game from an open-ended text adventure. Facts about other products come from their websites and US App Store listings, read in October 2026.

How we chose

We included AI story and text-adventure products that are live, with an official site or App Store listing we could read. We ranked them by how closely each matches an open-ended AI text adventure, since that is what the search "AI text adventure" describes. That is a ranking by fit, not by quality. Each entry has a "best for" line so you can skip the order. We left out any product we could not verify, including Perchance, whose pages refused our request, and Infinite Worlds, whose site showed an error. Price models are quoted as shown.

Its site calls it free; paid memberships and Credits packs exist. It is listed 13+ (US App Store, October 2026). aidungeon.com

5. Hidden Door

Best for: picking a world and letting a narrator run it. Its site says you pick a world, add Modifier cards to change the mood, and a Narrator builds a story with a cast. 6. Plot Twister

Best for: steering characters through short pixel-art episodes. You are not the hero. You whisper a thought into a character's head, from presets or typed up to 500 characters, or inject an event, and the AI writes what happens next. You can rewind and branch, reach multiple endings, and share a Plot Twist Score recap card.

It has 10 hand-built episodes. For what it sells in-app, see its App Store listing. It is rated 16+, episodes carry content warnings, and stories are labeled AI-generated.

Not best for: open-ended sandbox adventures where you type your own actions. Pick AI Dungeon or FableAI for that. See the Plot Twister page.

Plot Twister: whisper into characters' heads and watch the story bend. Rated 16+.
