Plot Twister

AI RPG games with stats, dice and combat

Updated · By Reno Labs

If you want an AI RPG with real rules, start with Friends & Fables for D&D 5e-based combat in a party, or AI Game Master on iPhone for levels, items and dice. Voyage, from the team behind AI Dungeon, adds stats, skills and equipment and lets you run the game as dungeon master. On a Windows PC, try AI Roguelite. If you only want open-ended storytelling, AI Dungeon or FableAI is enough.

Disclosure. We make Plot Twister. It is a story game, not an RPG, so it is not ranked here; we describe it at the end for people who want a story without stats. Facts about other apps come from their US App Store listings, Steam page and official sites, read in October 2026. Prices are as each source listed them in October 2026 and can change.

How we chose

An AI RPG is a role-playing game where an AI acts as the game master. We ranked games by how much RPG structure each one documents: stats, dice checks, combat, inventory, leveling and parties. Our sources were each game’s US App Store listing, Steam page or official site, read in October 2026. This is a ranking by fit for “RPG”, not by quality, and we did not test how well the rules hold up in play. We left out Perchance’s AI RPG because its pages refused our request. Ratings are the US App Store average and count on the day we checked.

1. Friends & Fables

Best for: D&D-style rules with a party. Its site describes an AI game master named Franz, tactical turn-based combat based on D&D 5e rules with battle maps, spells and monsters, inventory, quests and travel, plus world-building tools and maps. It runs in the browser and moves between desktop, tablet and mobile. The pricing page lists a free plan with up to 25 turns a day and 3-player campaigns, and paid plans from $19.95 a month on monthly billing, with unlimited standard turns and bigger parties. fables.gg

2. AI Game Master - Dungeon RPG

Best for: an RPG loop on iPhone. The listing describes an AI dungeon master plus an RPG system with companions, quests, item generation, XP and leveling, special abilities, pets and dice. It also lists multiplayer and a community library of stories. In-app purchases include Turn Tokens and subscription plans. It is rated 4.7 from 5,693 ratings (October 2026).

3. Voyage

Best for: structured rules with a lot of freedom. Voyage is made by Latitude, the company behind AI Dungeon. Its listing says your stats, skills and equipment decide outcomes through skill checks, characters remember how you treated them, and you can invite friends or run the game as dungeon master. Voyage Studio lets you build worlds with characters, quests, rules and maps. In-app purchases include memberships and Credits packs. It is rated 4.2 from 112 ratings.

4. AI Roguelite

Best for: a PC game where the AI also runs the mechanics. Its Steam page describes a text RPG where an AI generates every location, enemy, item and crafting recipe. Whether an attack works depends on the item’s description, how plausible the action is and a dice roll on your attributes and skills. You can bring up to four other party members. It is $14.99 for Windows on Steam, works with a free cloud AI by default, and offers an optional monthly subscription for stronger models.

5. Maze AI

Best for: a character sheet with your typed actions. The listing describes an AI dungeon master, preset or typed choices, and a character with stats, skills, traits and a managed inventory. It can read the story aloud, and you can build your own scenarios. Premium is sold weekly, monthly, yearly or as a lifetime purchase. It is rated 4.4 from 129 ratings.

6. Everweave

Best for: class-based fantasy in the D&D spirit. The listing describes a text RPG with an AI dungeon master and no fixed paths, and says the app is at an early stage. Its site describes classes such as Fighter and Paladin, dice rolls, abilities and magic. The listing shows message packs and subscription tiers. It is rated 4.3 from 8,656 ratings. everweave.ai

7. FableAI

Best for: light rules and group play. You choose DO or SAY and type your move. Dice are optional: turn them on and the narrator rolls a d20 when a move could go either way. Up to 8 players can share one story, and the listing counts 5,000 or more adventures. Its site lists a forever-free plan and links the App Store and Google Play, and you can also play in a browser. fableai.app

8. AI Dungeon

Best for: pure open-ended adventure. AI Dungeon has few fixed rules: you type what you do and the AI responds. Its listing describes Story Cards and Memory Banks that keep track of what the AI should remember, plus multiplayer. It says you can play free without ads; memberships and Credits packs are in-app purchases. For more like it, see AI Dungeon alternatives. aidungeon.com

Not an RPG: Plot Twister

Plot Twister is our app, and we left it out of the ranking because it has no stats, dice or inventory, and you do not play a hero. Each episode has a fixed cast in GBA-style pixel art. You steer them by whispering a thought into a character’s head, from presets or typed up to 500 characters, or by injecting an event, and the AI writes what happens next. You can rewind and branch, reach different endings, and share a Plot Twist Score card.

It fits you if what you like about AI RPGs is a story that reacts to you, and you would rather skip the character sheet. Its 10 hand-built episodes include The Haunting at Mariner’s Point and Kepler Station. It is rated 16+, episodes carry content warnings, and stories are labeled AI-generated.

Plot Twister: whisper into characters' heads and watch the story bend. Ten hand-built episodes in pixel art. Rated 16+.
