How to propagate Spider Plant

Plantlets (spiderettes)

Difficulty: Very easyTimeline: Roots in 1-2 weeks; one of the fastest plants to propagate.
  1. Locate a plantlet (baby spider) on the end of a runner.
  2. Either snip it off and root it, or pin it (still attached) onto a nearby pot of soil.
  3. Keep the soil moist until roots establish, then cut the runner.

Common Spider Plant problems & fixes

Brown leaf tips

Fluoride/chlorine in tap water or salt buildup. Use filtered water and flush the soil.

Pale, washed-out leaves

Too much direct sun. Move to brighter indirect light.

No babies/runners

Plant may be too young, over-potted, or under-lit. Be patient and give bright indirect light.
