How to propagate Corn Plant

Stem cuttings (water or soil)

Difficulty: EasyTimeline: Roots in 3-6 weeks.
  1. Cut the cane into 4-8 inch sections, noting which end pointed up.
  2. Root a leafy tip cutting in water or moist mix.
  3. For bare cane sections, insert the bottom end into moist mix; new shoots sprout from dormant buds.
  4. Keep warm in bright, indirect light until roots and shoots form.

Common Corn Plant problems & fixes

Yellow leaves

Usually overwatering. Let the soil dry more between waterings and confirm the pot drains well.

Brown, crispy leaf tips

Low humidity or salt buildup. Raise humidity and flush the soil with plain water occasionally.

Leggy growth / small new leaves

Too little light. Move to brighter indirect light and prune to encourage fuller growth.
