GoutShield

1. Introduction

GoutShield is a gout management app developed by Reno Labs, LLC. It helps you track gout flares, food intake, hydration, medications, uric acid levels, and weather correlations — all stored privately on your device.

This Privacy Policy explains what information GoutShield collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use GoutShield, you may enter the following information directly into the app:

• Gout flare records — date, affected joints, severity, pain type, acute medications taken, notes
• Food diary entries — foods consumed, meal type, portion size
• Hydration logs — water and beverage intake
• Uric acid readings — lab values, fasting status
• Medication records — medication names, dosages, frequency, adherence logs
• Gout profile — diagnosis year, known triggers, flare frequency, target uric acid level, daily water goal

All of this information is stored locally on your device only. It is never uploaded to our servers or any third-party servers.

RevenueCat processes subscription data on our behalf. No personal identifiers (name, email, etc.) are shared with RevenueCat.

Information from Device Permissions

GoutShield requests the following device permissions. Each is optional — you can deny or revoke access at any time in your device Settings.

Location data is not stored. Your approximate location is sent to Apple's WeatherKit service to retrieve weather conditions. Only the resulting weather data (pressure, temperature, humidity) is saved locally.

HealthKit data stays on your device. We read but do not write to HealthKit, and health data is never transmitted off your device.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Gout tracking and insights — to display your flare history, food diary, medication adherence, hydration progress, and trigger correlations
• Weather correlations — to analyze relationships between weather changes and your flare patterns
• Doctor reports — to generate PDF summaries you can share with your healthcare provider
• Subscription management — to unlock premium features based on your subscription status
• Reminders — to send local notifications for medications, hydration, and check-ins
• Widget updates — to display your flare status and health metrics on your home and lock screen

We do not use your data for advertising, user profiling, or selling to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat processes your purchase receipts to validate subscription status. RevenueCat acts as a data processor on our behalf and does not use your purchase data for its own purposes.

Apple WeatherKit

We use Apple's WeatherKit framework to fetch local weather conditions. Your approximate location is sent to Apple's weather service. Apple's privacy policy applies to this data: apple.com/legal/privacy

Apple HealthKit

We read body weight and step count data from Apple HealthKit with your permission. This data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Apple StoreKit

We use Apple's StoreKit framework to prompt for App Store reviews. No personal data is collected through this interaction.

5. Data Storage and Security

GoutShield is a local-only app. All your health data, food diary, medication records, and flare history are stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework within the app's private sandbox.

• We do not operate servers or a backend database.
• Your data is protected by your device's built-in encryption (Data Protection).
• Data shared between the app and its widget extension uses Apple's App Groups, confined to your device.
• Temporary files (e.g., PDF reports) are created in the app's temporary directory and deleted after use.

Data retention: Your data persists on your device until you delete individual records within the app or delete the app itself. We have no ability to access, recover, or delete your data remotely.

6. Your Rights

All Users

Because your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:

• Access: View all your data within the app at any time.
• Export: Generate a PDF report or export your data from the app.
• Delete: Delete individual records or use the "Delete All Data" option in Settings to erase everything.
• Portability: Your data can be exported as a PDF report.

European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

• Legal basis for processing: We process your data based on your consent (you choose to enter data into the app) and for the performance of the service you requested.
• Right to erasure: You can delete all your data at any time using the in-app "Delete All Data" feature.
• Right to restrict processing: You can revoke any device permission (location, HealthKit, notifications) at any time through your device Settings.
• Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
• Data transfers: Subscription validation data processed by RevenueCat may be transferred to the United States. RevenueCat maintains appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

• Right to know: This privacy policy describes all data we collect and how it is used.
• Right to delete: You can delete all your data using the in-app "Delete All Data" feature.
• Right to opt-out of sale: We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
• Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

7. Children's Privacy

GoutShield is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at the email below.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
