Privacy Policy

Decade

Effective date: June 30, 2026

1. Introduction

Decade is a daily year-guessing puzzle game developed by Reno Labs, LLC. Each day, players see one or more archival photos and try to guess the year each was taken. This Privacy Policy explains what information Decade collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

Decade does not require a user account, and there is no sign-up or login. We never ask you to provide your name, email address, phone number, or other personal contact information. The only information you provide directly is the year guesses you submit while playing.

Anonymous Device Identifier

The first time you open Decade, the app generates a random identifier (a UUID) and stores it in your device's iOS Keychain (with a local fallback copy on the device). This anonymous identifier is not your Apple ID, your advertising identifier (IDFA), or your vendor identifier (IDFV) — it is a random value created on-device. It is used to associate your daily streak, game results, and (if you enable them) daily reminders with your device, so your streak survives reinstalls. It is never linked to your real-world identity.

Game Progress

When you finish a daily puzzle, Decade sends the outcome (won or lost, your score, the number of guesses, elapsed time, and the guesses themselves) to our servers. This data is keyed only to your anonymous identifier and is used to compute your daily streak and your personal lifetime stats (games played, win rate, and your score distribution). Decade Pro subscribers also get a personal "Your Style" breakdown computed from this same history — for example, which eras you guess most accurately and how your scores vary by day of week. We do not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking, and we do not share your individual results with other players.

Push Notification Token

If you turn on the daily reminder and grant notification permission, Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) issues a push token for your device, which we store on our servers so we can send your once-a-day "new frame" reminder. The token is associated only with your anonymous identifier. If you revoke notification permission, the token becomes invalid and the next reminder fails silently. You can decline notifications entirely and Decade still works fully — you just won't get the daily nudge.

Subscription Information (RevenueCat)

If you subscribe to Decade Pro, our subscription management service (RevenueCat) processes transaction receipts and subscription status to validate your purchase and unlock Pro features. RevenueCat associates these purchases with a random identifier, not with your personal identity.

Anonymized Analytics (PostHog)

Decade uses PostHog to record a limited set of anonymized product-interaction events — for example, puzzle started, puzzle solved, puzzle failed, share exported, paywall viewed, and subscription started — along with standard technical context such as app version, operating-system version, and device model. These events are keyed to your anonymous identifier (the same Keychain UUID described above) and are never linked to your real-world identity. We do not use PostHog to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and the app performs no advertising tracking (our App Store privacy manifest declares no tracking and no tracking domains). PostHog may process your IP address in transit to deliver and coarsely geolocate events; we do not use it to identify you.

PostHog also receives crash and error diagnostics (an exception type, message, and stack trace) when the app hits a handled error, so we can find and fix bugs.

Information from Device Permissions

Decade requests the following device permission:

Decade does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, photo library, location, or any other sensitive permissions. Decade does not offer Sign in with Apple and does not collect your name or email address.

3. How We Use Your Information

4. Third-Party Services

RevenueCat

Decade uses RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat processes purchase receipts and subscription status on our behalf. RevenueCat acts as a data processor and does not sell or share your data with third parties for their own purposes.

RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy

PostHog

Decade uses PostHog for product analytics and error tracking. PostHog processes anonymized event data on our behalf as a data processor, on infrastructure located in the United States. We do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. If you are in the European Economic Area, this means your anonymized analytics events are transferred to and processed in the United States.

PostHog's privacy policy: posthog.com/privacy

Apple Push Notification Service (APNs)

Decade uses APNs to deliver daily reminders to your device. APNs is operated by Apple and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Apple App Store

Purchases are processed through Apple's App Store infrastructure. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your interface preferences are stored locally on your device.

Your anonymous identifier, game results, streak data, and — only if you enable reminders — your push notification token are stored on servers operated by Reno Labs, LLC, hosted in the European Union. Communication between Decade and our servers is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher.

We do not store your name, email address, phone number, or any device identifier tied to your real-world identity.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete your data at any time from inside the app: open Settings → Account → Delete My Account. This permanently removes your anonymous identifier, streak, game results, and push notification token from our servers, and wipes the local copy of your identifier from your device. Your active subscription is tied to your Apple ID and is not affected; manage it from Settings → Manage Subscription or the App Store account settings.

Uninstalling the app without using the in-app Delete My Account flow removes the local copy of your anonymous identifier, but does not remove the server-side records. If you have already uninstalled and cannot complete the in-app flow, email us — see Contact Us below — and we will delete the server-side records associated with your anonymous identifier.

6. Your Rights

All Users

You can delete every trace of your activity from our servers at any time via Settings → Account → Delete My Account. Uninstalling the app removes the local copy of your anonymous identifier but does not by itself remove the associated server-side records — use the in-app deletion flow for that, or email us if you no longer have the app installed.

European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

To exercise these rights, email us at the address below. Because we hold no personally identifying information, we may ask you to provide your anonymous identifier so we can locate and act on the associated records.

Legal basis for processing: Game progress data is processed based on the performance of our service to you (providing streaks and stats); subscription data is processed based on the performance of our contract with you (providing the subscription service you purchased); anonymized analytics is processed based on our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate product usage and fixing bugs.

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

Decade does not sell your information. The information we collect is described in this policy.

7. Children's Privacy

Decade is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
